Loreto College

Overview

Loreto College is part of the world-wide Loreto organisation, established by the sisters of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our tradition has a drive for excellence and a belief in a well-rounded education. Our most recent Ofsted inspection rated our teaching as outstanding and teachers were noted for displaying excellent subject knowledge, knowing their students exceptionally well and for planning lessons meticulously.

Our results are consistently outstanding and we are particularly good at preparing our students for the next stage of their education. Many of our students go on to study at Russell Group universities and we have a well-established Oxbridge preparation programme. We have also built effective links with employers in the local community which provides additional opportunities for our students.

Students enjoy their learning and are willing to take on leadership roles both within and outside the classroom. The behaviour of the students is exemplary and we provide a caring and safe community. The Sixth Form are ambassadors for the school taking part in a variety of extracurricular activities both within the Loreto community as well as in the local community.

Facilities & Resources

We are based in the very heart of St Albans. Our proximity to the main St Albans train station allows easy access for students to commute to school, whilst facilitating educational trips to London to attend plays and lectures and visit museums and art galleries. The grounds of the school are most attractive, providing much tranquillity and seclusion from the city. Our site is a pleasant mix of the old and new, carefully organised into separate spaces for each subject and extra-curricular pursuits. The original Chapel sits at the heart of our grounds and provides a spiritual place for the school community. We also have a multi-purpose gymnasium, hockey pitch and six all-weather netball/tennis courts. There is a specific building for the Sixth Form, giving them an area away from the lower school to study. We have a well-stocked library and books and other resources are regularly updated.
